3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this European Standard, the flowing terms and definitions apply.1 dry residue the dry mass portion of the sudge obtained after the specihed drying process. It is expressed as percent or in grams per kliogram water content the mass portion of water present in the sludge. It is determined as a loss of mass under defined conditions after the specified dirying process. It is expressed as peroent or as grams per kilogram .3 dry mass (dry matter) the mass of solids obtained atter the specified drying process. It is expressed as grams or kilograms
3.4 constant mass constant mass is reached when, during the drying process the diference between two successive weighings of the sample, frst heated, then cooled to room temperature and with an interval of 1 h between them, does nof exceed 0,5 % (mw/m) of the last determined mass or 2 mg, whichever is the greater
4 Principle Sludge samples are dried to constant mass in an oven at (105土5) “C. The dfference in mass before and after the drying process is used to calculate the dry residue and the water content.
